What This Visa Is

A fast, cap-free path under USMCA

The TN is a US work status under the USMCA for citizens of Canada and Mexico, covering dozens of professional occupations, from engineers and scientists to accountants, management consultants, and computer systems analysts.

There's no annual cap and no lottery, and it renews in three-year increments. It's efficient, but easy to get wrong: a vague job description or a mismatched title can mean refusal at the border.

Eligibility

Occupations that qualify for a TN

TN eligibility isn't a general work-authorization test, it's a defined list of professional occupations under USMCA. Each one carries its own credential and job-description requirements, and a mismatch between your title, duties, and degree is the most common reason for refusal. We confirm the fit before anything is filed.

Engineers

Professional engineering roles across a wide range of disciplines and industries.

Scientists

Research and applied science roles, from the physical sciences to agriculture.

Accountants

Licensed or credentialed accounting roles at qualifying employers.

Management consultants

Advisory roles backed by the right credentials or professional experience.

Computer systems analysts

Technical analyst roles that match the position's credential requirements.

How We Work

One point of accountability, start to entry

Built on firsthand knowledge of how officers review TN applications.

We confirm your role qualifies and your credentials match before anything is filed, then pair you with a licensed US immigration attorney matched to your profession. From there we assemble the employer support letter, credentials, and every supporting document so the file is complete and consistent.

Canadians apply at the border or preclearance; Mexican citizens attend a consular interview, and we prepare you for exactly what to expect at either. Former US Consulate experience on our team means we know how officers review TN applications, and we build every case to hold up, with flat transparent pricing and full visibility at every stage. When it's time to extend or bring family, we handle renewals and TD status for spouses and children too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions, answered.

Is the TN visa a path to a green card?
No. The TN is a nonimmigrant status that requires nonimmigrant intent, so it has no direct path to permanent residence. Many TN holders later pursue a green card through an employer-sponsored category once their plans change.
How long is a TN visa valid for?
TN status is granted in increments of up to three years, with no limit on the number of renewals as long as you continue to qualify.
Can I apply for a TN visa from within the US?
Yes. If you are already in a valid nonimmigrant status, you can request a change of status or extension with USCIS. Canadian citizens entering from outside the US typically apply directly at the border or a preclearance station instead.
Can family members accompany TN visa holders?
Yes. Spouses and unmarried children under 21 may accompany TN holders under TD status. TD dependents may study in the US but are not authorized to work.
What's the difference between how Canadians and Mexicans apply?
Canadian citizens generally apply for TN status directly at the border or a preclearance station, without a visa stamp. Mexican citizens must first obtain a TN visa through a consular interview before entering the US.
